Solution & Technical Architect Jobs

Architects sit at the top of the Dynamics 365 delivery hierarchy, owning the end-to-end design of solutions that may span Finance & Operations, Customer Engagement, Business Central, Dataverse and the Power Platform. The distinction between a solution architect and a technical architect is practical rather than absolute: solution architects focus on functional fit, integration strategy and overall solution shape, while technical architects concentrate on platform design, extensibility, data architecture, performance and the development standards that delivery teams follow. On many programmes one person, or a paired team, covers both.

Demand in the UK is consistently strong because architects are the scarcest tier of the ecosystem — the role requires deep product knowledge across one or more Dynamics 365 apps plus the cross-cutting Azure, integration and ALM expertise to design at scale. Partners, ISVs and end-user organisations all compete for the same limited pool, which sustains both permanent salaries and contract day rates at the senior end of the market.

Most architects come up through functional consulting or development rather than entering the role directly. Employers typically expect several full lifecycle implementations, evidence of design ownership on enterprise programmes, and the soft skills to lead workshops, challenge requirements and present to senior stakeholders. The PL-600 (Power Platform Solution Architect) certification has become the recognised baseline credential, usually backed by app-specific certifications in the candidate's core area.

Work is split between Microsoft partners and systems integrators, where architects move across multiple client engagements, and end-user organisations building internal platform capability. Remote and hybrid working is common, though client-facing and workshop-heavy phases often require on-site presence.
