The Finance Business Partner – AFL NT plays an important role in supporting strong financial management, commercial decision-making and business planning across AFL NT.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, you will advise and assist the AFL NT team on financial and management accounting matters, helping the business make informed decisions and achieve the best possible outcomes.
This role will see you maintain and execute management accounting activities, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting and variance analysis, while also supporting Government funding management, business planning and end-to-end finance processes across AFL NT departments.
What you'll own
You'll help ensure AFL NT has accurate, reliable and practical financial information to support decision-making, cost control, funding management and long-term business planning.
You'll add value through:
- Producing monthly management reporting, including monthly variance analysis, annual budgets and forecasts in partnership with the business
- Managing Government funding, including supporting the team to identify and unlock new grant funding opportunities
- Building trusted relationships with cost centre managers, Heads of departments and key stakeholders across AFL NT
- Liaising with cost centre managers to support effective cost control and accurate financial reporting
- Providing financial leadership, advice and accounting support to cost centre managers and Heads of departments
- Contributing to ad hoc project working groups through project accounting, forecasting and reporting support
- Presenting financial results, analysis and insights to support informed business decisions
- Supporting and improving project reporting for the Indigenous Programs team
- Upskilling and educating stakeholders on financial processes and general business acumen
- Supporting the business with tenders and new business proposals
- Challenging the status quo and championing finance and enterprise-level transformation
- Supporting financial reporting processes and contributing to the annual audit process
What you'll bring
- Tertiary-level accounting qualification and post-graduate qualifications, such as CPA or CA
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in an accounting role
- Experience working with Government bodies and managing Government funding
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
- Strong accuracy and reliability in financial performance reporting against approved income, expenditure and cash flow budgets and forecasts
- Ability to improve alignment between business areas and financial processes and policies
- Appreciation for technology and a willingness to champion change that supports good decision-making
- Ability to prioritise, manage deadlines and seek support when appropriate
- Forward-thinking approach, with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to build rapport with people at all levels of an organisation
- Commitment to personal growth, team growth and continuous improvement
- Prior experience or knowledge of sporting administration environments
- Experience with cloud-based budgeting and forecasting tools
- Experience using Workday Adaptive and Dynamics 365

About Australian Football League
