About Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the pre-eminent professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, it also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for the laws of the game. It administers the elite men's and women's competitions and talent pathways, and its national body was renamed from the Victorian Football League to the Australian Football League in 1990 as the competition expanded to states beyond Victoria.
