About the Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer continuously evaluates the plant machines for reliability and effectiveness. In fulfilling this role, the Senior Mechanical Engineer works closely with engineering team department members, maintenance, and operations. They provide day-to-day technical support on all aspects of plant machine center operations. The Senior Mechanical Engineer works with maintenance planning and operations to plan and schedule all preventative and predictive maintenance for machines as needed. They will act as plant liaison for new system start up and commissioning by all outside controls contractors and system integrators to ensure proper transfer of documented PLC program changes, manuals, and adequate training on the installation/changes that have been completed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design of experiments (DOE) to redesign systems creating chronic issues and develop sustainable solutions
  • Maintain and update all documentation for machine centers, as needed (Schematics, manuals, PI&D)
  • Source parts through schematics, spare parts manual, and parts attendant
  • Make recommendations on spare parts for internal inventory
  • Create work orders and PM's through D365 and add all parts required for the scope of work to be performed
  • Help coordinate and facilitate the scheduling of overhauls
  • Drive process improvements and present to the Engineering Department
  • Schedule downtime repairs with packaging, maintenance, and project manager/supervisors
  • Work together with Operations and utilize all resources to eliminate downtime
  • Demonstrate leadership skills by teaching technicians how to perform technician PM's
  • Participate in plant safety, health, and environmental programs
  • Drive improvements through the CI processes and playbook that Goodyear has established
  • Closely collaborate with the manufacturing and engineering team to clearly define engineering acceptance standards and specifications based on the voice of the customer
  • Validate and characterize new processes, equipment and fixtures for production implementation focused on damage-free
  • Create detailed manufacturing instructions to document engineering critical characteristics
  • Collaborate with the Quality, Manufacturing and Maintenance Managers to reduce and eliminate downtime contained on the single agenda
  • Perform BDA and RCA's for issues that arise from the production floor
  • Incorporate Lean Manufacturing best practices and working in a culture focused on continuous improvement
  • Drive GMP and 5S initiatives
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills with cognitive actions
  • Understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints to conduct business
  • Launch and drive large capital projects from design recommendations to complete ownership
  • Drive Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) to be best in class
  • Drive Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) to be best in class
  • Other duties may be assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or another related field
  • High speed manufacturing, dairy processing, and packaging
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt accreditation a plus

Working Conditions

  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: Stands, walks, and sits during completion of job responsibilities
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting requirements as job demands. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. on an occasional basis
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced high demand production facilities and the ability to perform those duties

Food Safety Requirements

  • Follow all safety standards and life saving rules that have been established
  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming products in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required

  • Base pay range: $100,000—$130,000 USD
