Position Summary

Reports to: ERP Program Manager

The IT Functional Engineer is a hands-on solution architect and configuration engineer responsible for designing, configuring, developing, extending, and optimizing finance ERP capabilities. This role goes beyond traditional requirements gathering and acts as a functional-technical leader, driving scalable financial solutions, automation, and AI-powered enhancements aligned to enterprise strategy. This individual works closely with functional leadership, data teams, and business leaders to translate financial processes into robust system capabilities, leveraging the full financial technology ecosystem including Dynamics 365 ERP (D365), Power Platform, Azure services, and AI/Copilot tooling, and third party applications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Solution Design & Platform Ownership

  • Own the functional design and architecture of D365 Finance modules and integrated third party applications (GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Cost Accounting, Budgeting, US/Foreign Banking, FX)
  • Manage and scale solutions across a multi-entity environment
  • Translate provided requirements into scalable system configurations and extensible solution designs
  • Define and enforce design standards, governance, and best practices for D365 Finance
  • Lead fit-to-standard analysis with a bias toward configuration over customization

Advanced Configuration & Functional Development

  • Perform complex configuration of financial applications and modules, including ledger structures, posting profiles, workflows, and financial dimensions
  • Design, develop, validate, and implement custom extensions, integrations, and APIs
  • Contribute to functional specifications for application selection and development, ensuring performance, scalability, and auditability
  • Support data models, financial reporting structures, and data flows into analytics platforms

AI, Automation, & Data

  • Identify and implement opportunities for AI-driven automation (e.g., invoice processing, reconciliations, anomaly detection)
  • Leverage Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, and Azure AI services to enhance financial processes
  • Develop and prototype intelligent workflows and decision-support capabilities
  • Support adoption of predictive analytics and real-time insights within finance operations
  • Collaborate on data architecture and master data governance
  • Ensure seamless data integrity and financial controls across systems

Testing, Quality, & Release Management

  • Own functional testing strategy, including unit, integration, and regression testing
  • Validate solutions against financial compliance, audit, and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with DevOps teams to support release pipelines and deployment readiness
  • Ensure high-quality delivery with minimal disruption to finance operations

Continuous Improvement & Performance Optimization

  • Proactively identify opportunities to optimize financial processes and system performance
  • Monitor system usage and recommend enhancements based on data and user behavior
  • Stay current and advise leadership on Microsoft roadmap, D365 updates, and emerging finance technologies
  • Drive continuous innovation within Finance IT capabilities

Support & Operational Excellence

  • Act as an escalation point for complex financial system issues
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Partner with support teams to ensure stable, reliable system operations
  • Maintain high-quality functional and technical documentation
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support business objectives

Safety Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Participate in required safety training
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents promptly

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience with Dynamics 365 Finance (or AX2012 in finance modules)
  • Proven experience in end-to-end implementations or major system transformations
  • Strong background in financial processes (O2C, P2P, and R2R), accounting principles, and controls

Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of common financial integration patterns (APIs, OData, SFTP, JSON/XML, industry specific formats such as BAI2, CAMT, ISO20022)
  • Experience working in manufacturing or process industries is preferred
  • Experience in working with consulting firms, outsourcing, co-developing, testing, and validating

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications in Dynamics 365 Finance

Compensation & Benefits

Retirement & Ownership

  • Employee Ownership (ESOP): Company-funded retirement contribution of approximately 18% of pay, plus 401(k)
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan: Company match of 100% up to 3% deferral with a three-year vesting schedule
  • ESOP eligibility: First of the month following 30 days of service, with six-year vesting schedule
