Materials and Operations Manager

Allient Inc. is in growth mode and currently looking for a Materials and Operations Manager to join our Allient Sacramento team.
The Materials and Operations Manager is responsible for managing all facets of the manufacturing operation, including purchasing, supplier management, materials planning, production, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, and shipping. This role supports the manufacture of custom electro-mechanical devices for the high-technology marketplace, including medical devices and semiconductor equipment manufacturers. The Materials and Operations Manager is responsible for driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, quality, continuous improvement, and efficient material and production flow throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
- Manage all operational functions, including purchasing, supplier management, materials planning, production, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, and shipping.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through consistent on-time delivery performance that meets customer requirements.
- Lead the implementation and optimization of MRP systems while leveraging a thorough understanding of their strengths, limitations, and operational requirements.
- Select, negotiate, and manage relationships with both domestic and offshore suppliers.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of up to 10 direct reports.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve BOM structures, manufacturing cell design, transaction processes, and material flow.
- Develop strategic material sourcing plans and negotiate with suppliers to support operational goals.
- Receive and count cash; maintain cash book or other control records.
- Create monthly summary of financials, proofread and post operations progress or other reports and make a monthly summary or recap of such reports as needed.
- Oversee transfer from this NPI facility to production one of Allient's production facilities.
- Forecast material requirements and schedule expenditures to support financial objectives.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2000 standards or an equivalent Quality Management System (QMS).
- Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams to improve operational efficiency, product quality, and overall business performance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering preferred as this is an NPI facility.
- Knowledge of QuickBooks and D365 ERP preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in production supervision, purchasing, and materials planning within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated success achieving sustained high customer service levels through on-time delivery performance.
- Experience implementing multiple MRP systems and working effectively within MRP-driven environments.
- Proven experience in supplier selection, contract negotiations, and supplier management.
- Experience managing both domestic and offshore supplier relationships.
- Experience leading and developing teams with up to 10 direct reports.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their impact on BOM structures, manufacturing cell design, transaction processing, and material flow.
- Demonstrated success leading concurrent engineering projects that integrate quality and process considerations into product design.
- Proven experience implementing process control and variation reduction methodologies.
- Six Sigma Black Belt training required; certification preferred.
- Experience working within ISO 9001:2000 standards or an equivalent Quality Management System.
- Thorough understanding of one-piece flow, multi-piece flow, TAKT time, standard work, and workforce management principles.
- Basic understanding of financial statements and business administration preferred.
- Additional professional postgraduate training through universities, standards committees, or industry-related organizations preferred.
Work Environment
- Primarily works in a manufacturing and office environment.
- Regular interaction with production teams, engineering personnel, suppliers, customers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Must be willing and able to travel as needed to visit customers and suppliers.
- Frequent presence on the manufacturing floor to support production, quality, process improvement, and operational initiatives.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
