Position Summary
Reporting to the Controller, Finance, the Financial Analyst position provides support to the month-end, year-end, and budgeting processes, while analyzing, interpreting and communicating key financial and statistical metrics to department managers across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the month end process through the preparation of journal entries regarding depreciation, investment income, S/N Clinic services, insurance, prepaid expenditures, clearing accounts, bank transfers, and payroll
- Provide weekly reports on cash deposit tracking, held deposits and Shelter Buddy receipt changes by animal centre
- Follow up with Animal Centre managers on cash/credit/debit transactions that haven't been completed by end of each week
- Perform monthly Scotiabank Operating bank account reconciliation
- Support the Accounting Clerk in their daily activities, ensuring they are adequately trained to complete assigned duties and supported as required
- Maintain the financial configuration for the animal care shelter management system (Shelter Buddy) and eVet (Covetrus Pulse)
- Monthly review of refunds in eVet (Covetrus Pulse)
- Maintain the integration from fundraising system (Raiser's Edge NXT), ensuring all Society revenue is accurately recorded in the GL monthly
- Maintain monthly continuity schedules for fixed assets, prepaids, investments
- Monitor cash flow and initiate transfers/withdrawals/deposits of funds
- Recommend investment options and co-ordinate approved investment transactions with Brokers
- Maintain the Society's petty cash processes and requirements
- Preparation of internal monthly financial statements
- Analyze and interpret monthly/quarterly/annual financial and statistical results
- Prepare quarterly HST Submission
- Prepare monthly/quarterly Nevada gaming reports
- Compile schedules and working papers for the year end audit
- Provide support in the preparation of the annual budget
- Provide insight for continual improvement of the operational and financial effectiveness of the finance department
- Support the CFO, Controller and other members of the finance team as required
Requirements
- Enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) or similar designation
- University degree or related College diploma
- 3–5 years of related experience in a similar finance position
- Experience in a non-profit organization an asset
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central is preferred
- Strong Excel skills and proficient with other MS Office applications
- Exposure to fundraising software is a benefit (i.e.: Raiser's Edge)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to complete multiple tasks with a high volume of work often with tight deadlines
